ARH50S Custom
This is the new model
HW50S in 22 cal. I wasn't sure which way to go with this
rifle. The project actually started with a stock that was
purchased from Air Rifle Headquarters several years back and inletted
to fit the new modern action. I wanted something more
traditional to fit with the classic lines of the stock, so a stainless
set back trigger unit that I had on hand for another project was fitted
as
opposed to brass. I may later do a antiqued bronze trigger or one of a
pair of Damascus units I have stashed away for other projects.
The stock being a darker piece of wood I opted to fit ARH's red pad for
the old large bore English look. That was also a deciding factor
when choosing the action in 22 cal. 22 cal also tends to be
slightly more sedate in recoil than it's 177cal counterpart. A
spring was selected that would yield lower cocking effort while
retaining full power. The result is a light easy to shoot mid
power rifle that is quite, pleasant to shoot and hard hitting for a
rifle this size. The stock is a Missouri walnut in grade two with
18 line per inch checkering on the pistol grip and a hand rubbed oil
finish. I had originally
wanted to ad a large panel wrapped under the fore arm when I first
started on this three years ago, but never got around to doing
it. Sadly ARH has quit producing this stock and this is the last
one I had on hand. It was displayed at the Roanoke airgun show in
2010 in it's pictured form. I may ad more checkering and some
bronze or Damascus trim later, but currently have the rifle on hold
until I'm able finish up with other higher priority projects.
